VRBO lets hosts choose whether events are allowed. Many listings prohibit them by default, but some are specifically marked event friendly in the search filters.
Check the property's house rules section and the event policy on the listing page. If it's silent, message the owner directly and ask before you book.

Airbnb generally considers gatherings over the listed guest count, loud music, or disruptive behavior to be a party. A small daytime event with the guest count under the cap is often considered different, but always confirm.

Backyards at short term rentals follow the same house rules as the home itself. Even outside, get host approval and confirm guest counts.
We don't recommend specific listings, but VRBO has an "events allowed" filter, and some Airbnb listings are tagged as event friendly. Filter by those when you search.
